Has The Time Come To Clean Your Coffee Maker?
If you are anything like me, this is not a job you will undertake too often! Really though you should clean your coffee maker quite regularly, as when it gets dirty it can totally ruin a really great cup of coffee. It’s actually quite easy to clean your coffee machine, and to stop the limescale building up inside.
The best method for cleaning the actual machine is to fill your coffee pot with around two thirds water and one third white vinegar, and put in a filter. Then you need to pour the vinegar mix into the water container and switch on the machine. The coffee machine then needs to run through its normal cyle, so you will be left with a pot of hot vinegar and water! This can be quite a smelly process so you may want to have air freshener handy or open the windows wide.
Next stage is to remove the filter (see how much muck has collected there?) and discard. Leave it all to cool off for fifteen to twenty minutes, and then rinse the pot. If you find the coffee machine still needs a little more cleaning, then you can repeat the steps above until you are happy with it.
You should then run just water through the process a few times, as you want to be sure you have taken away any remnants of vinegar. It is not a nice part of owning a coffee machine, but having it nice and clean will certainly ensure you have great tasting cups of coffee all the time! To make sure everything is as clean as can be you need to wash out the coffee pot itself, but don’t use soap. If it’s particularly bad you can try putting some salt on the stains.
